Becker Kicks Off Campaign for Rematch Against McCarthy

The Nassau County Legislator lost in 2010 to the Democratic incumbent.

  Nassau County Legis. Francis Becker recently announced that he will seek a congressional bid to New York's 4th district, two years after losing to Rep. Carolyn McCarthy in 2010. The Lynbrook resident still needs to gain the Republican nomination for the election - Becker will square off against Frank Scaturro, whom he defeated in 2010 for the nomination. Party primary elections are scheduled for June 26, 2012. “The overwhelming support I’ve received during the petitioning period has been tremendous. Republican Primary Tuesday [Poll]

New York has 95 delegates for the taking in Tuesday's Republican Presidential Primary.

  While the race is all but over, the Republican presidential field casts its eyes to New York with Tuesday's primary and 95 delegates on the line.  Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the clear frontrunner, but Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich remain in the race. This is a closed primary, so only registered Republicans can vote. You can look up where to vote on the Board of Elections website. It's also primary day in Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, meaning 222 delegates are at stake. Romney leads the field with 685 delegates, more than halfway to the 1,144 needed to wrap up the presidential nomination, according to The New York Times.   The latest Quinnipiac poll has Romney leading in New York with 54 percent of those…

Election 2011: Darcy Re-Elected Over Rumelt in 3rd Councilmanic District

Republican incumbent James Darcy will serve another two-year term as 3rd district council member after defeating Democrat Owen Rumelt.

Republican James Darcy retained his position as 3rd district council member Tuesday after defeating Democrat Owen Rumelt. Darcy, of Valley Stream, captured 68.74 percent of the total vote against the non-incumbent, Rumelt. Before being elected to serve the residents of the 3rd Council District, Darcy served as assemblyman for the 21st Assembly District (Southwest Nassau) since January 1999. While in the Assembly, he served as a member of the Education, Judiciary and Aging Committees, as well as serving as ranking minority member on the Ethics and Government Operations Committees. Prior to being elected to serve the residents of the 21st Assembly District, Darcy served as mayor of the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream since April 1995. …

Incumbent Republican Kate Murray easily defeated Democratic challenger Gary Port Tuesday for the Hempstead Town Supervisor seat. Murray captured 66.84 percent of the total vote against the non-incumbent, Port. "I want to thank all of the residents of Hempstead Town who exercised their right to vote in this election," Murray told Patch. "I am grateful for the support I have received, and I am eager to work with all of the members of Hempstead Town's family to deliver upon Team Murray's campaign motto of 'freezing taxes, helping people.'" Hempstead Town Responds to Claims About Senior ID Cards

Town says no medication information is included on the ID cards.

Hempstead Town officials responded Monday afternoon to claims made by Steve Anchin, the Democratic candidate for Hempstead Town Clerk, about the town's senior ID program. The town, along with Town Clerk Mark Bonilla, announced in early October that it had begun offering free identification cards for senior citizens. Last week, Anchin claimed that the ID cards were "dangerous" due to ever-changing medication and prescription information. But the Town of Hempstead responded Monday by saying that no such information exists on the ID cards, specifically for that reason. GOP head Joe Mondello introduced the crowd to all of the candidates in supervisor, legislator, judge and council races.

Thursday night was rally night for the Republicans running for positions in County and Town governments across Nassau. The rally took place at Levittown Hall in Hicksville. GOP chair Joseph Mondello introduced the candidates to the Republican constituents. Many of the candidates, as well as Republican leaders not up for election, spoke in an effort to rally their supporters in an effort to get a significant turnout for Tuesday's elections.
