Ceremony honored "Nassau's Finest" who made the supreme sacrifice.
Fallen Nassau County Police Department officers were honored during a solemn ceremony Thursday in Mineola. Police and county officials recognized all deceased members of the department, which coincided with Police Week in Nassau County. The event featured a placement of floral tributes for all 32 NCPD members who made the supreme sacrifice. The Nassau County Police Memorial, which was first dedicated on May 12, 1982, features a massive stone monolith that displays two Bronze plaques. Recovered Stolen Property — On May 8 at 5 p.m., the manager of Hertz Car Rental 56 Horton Ave., reported that an unknown person(s) left a 2011 Toyota Sienna parked in front of Hertz. The vehicle was rented at an upstate Hertz location and not returned. The vehicle was then reported stolen in Suffolk County on April 3. The deceased was hit by another vehicle on Sunrise Highway Wednesday morning.
An East Rockaway teen was killed Wednesday morning while riding his motorcycle on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin. According to Nassau County detectives, at 8:03 a.m., Kelvin Rodriguez, 18, was riding his Honda motorcycle eastbound on Sunrise Highway when he struck another vehicle at Charing Crass Road. Rodriguez was transported to South Nassau Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff, police said. Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time.

The pair fled after setting off the car's alarm, only to return an hour later and set the same car on fire, police said.
Two men allegedly broke into a new convertible at a Lynbrook car dealership early Friday morning, but fled after they set off the car's alarm. According to police, the pair returned an hour later and set fire to the same car. Police are reporting that two white men wearing hooded jackets entered Anchor Audi on Sunrise Highway and broke into a 2012 Audi S5 convertible. After setting fire to the car just an hour later, the subjects fled in a waiting vehicle driven by an unknown third subject. The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway, according to police. The Lynbrook Fire Department responded with five trucks and 50 firefighters to extinguish the fire. A Lynbrook resident was in cardiac arrest when police arrived.
Officers from the Lynbrook Police Department saved the life of a 66-year-old man Tuesday afternoon at Pearsall's Station after the man went into cardiac arrest. According to police, at 2:09 p.m. the Lynbrook Police Department received a 911 call from Pearsall's Station located at 479 Sunrise Highway. The caller reported that a male had just fallen inside the restaurant. Officers Frank Menna, Tony Zee and Patrick Baginski were assigned to respond, police said. Upon arrival, Menna found Frank Cove, 66, of Lynbrook, lying on the floor by the bar in cardiac arrest. As Menna started CPR on the aided by giving chest compressions, Zee arrived and started to give Cove breath resuscitation, police said. An A.E.D. (automated external defibrillator) …
The 20-year-old pedestrian is recovering after being hit by a car early Thursday morning.
A 20-year-old male was struck by a car while trying to cross Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook early Thursday morning. According to the Lynbrook Police Department, around 1 a.m., the pedestrian was attempting to cross Sunrise Highway, from the south side to the north side, approximately 100 fest west of Atlantic Avenue when he was struck by a 2005 Nissan. The Nissan, operated by a 43-year-old Laurelton woman, was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway at the time of the accident, police said. The pedestrian was transported to South Nassau Community Hospital where he recovering from his injuries, police said. The operator of the Nissan was not injured and no tickets were issued.

Catherina Scalia pleaded guilty to one charge of prostitution earlier this week, according to reports.
Catherina Scalia, the East Rockaway woman accused of using her hot dog truck to solicit sex from an undercover police officer, returned to her normal place of business Wednesday morning. Scalia was arrested and charged with prostitution on May 3 after detectives became aware that she was allegedly using a hot dog vending truck, located on Sunrise Highway in Baldwin, to solicit customers for sexual conduct. CNN reported Tuesday that Scalia had pleaded guilty to the prostitution charge. Shortly after being released on bail Tuesday, Scalia's first words when leaving the jail were, "I'm here!
